Grief and Loss Counseling

Grief is a normal and natural reaction to a loss.  It is unique to the individual experiencing it.  There is no timetable for moving through the grief process. Grieving is the most misunderstood and avoided growth process a person can journey through.  In our Western society the process of moving through intense emotional pain has become so private and misunderstood that most of us have very little idea of what the process is or how to move through it.

Grief is a regular human emotion that we experience following any major change in a familiar pattern of behavior. Divorce can cause conflict, confusion, and an enormous sense of loss.  Even entering the sacrament of marriage can cause feelings of loss for a familiar lifestyle.  Dealing with addictions to alcohol, drugs, food, and so on can lead to monumental grief.  Retirement, an event so many look forward to, can also create intense conflicting emotions surrounded by feelings of loss. Often, these common life experiences are not seen as grieving events, however we grieve for the loss of all relationships that are significant in our emotional selves.

We've all heard the statement, "The only things that are certain in life are death and taxes."  Since you are reading this website, you already know that one more item must be added to these certainties: loss.  We all experience loss many times in our lives.

People who are grieving seek support from all kinds of different resources such as books, workshops, the Internet, and support groups.  Despite these resources, sometimes it seems as though we do not receive enough support from society and our grief can feel isolating and overwhelming.  If grief is left unresolved, mental and emotional responses may intensify.

If you are reading this website, it means your are open to facing your grief and moving through the grief process.  Moving through this process, however painful, can actually enhance your life rather than limit it.  If you are reading this website, it's because of what is right with you, not what is wrong.

If you find that the available information and resources are not enough to assist you through this process, and you feel you need additional support, please contact us.  At Front Range Counseling Center, we have helped many clients work through their grief after the loss of children, spouses, parents, siblings, jobs, animals, lawsuits, drugs, and alcohol.  Our goal is assist you through the grief process by providing a safe and empathetic environment.
